Shadowlands Grief Recovery
Shadowlands Grief Recovery is a comprehensive program for losses such as death of parents, spouse, sibling. adult child or pet. The program provides a Christian perspective on the journey from loss to a restored sense of peace and joy. You will learn about God’s model of grieving, coping skills for difficult emotions, and insights into the effect of a loss on all areas of life.
Loss is experienced in many forms: Death of a loved one, end of relationship, job loss, life-changing illnesses, adoption choice, abortion or suicide. Programs are presented twice a year via Zoom or in person in Plano TX.
OPTION 1: ONLINE via ZOOM ($50)
6 sessions via Zoom starting Tuesdays, Aug 27 – Oct 1, 2024. You have a choice of afternoon or evening sessions.
2:00-4:00PM Central Time
6:00-8:00PM Central Time
NOTE: A Participant Manual is required for the Zoom sessions, so if the manual needs to be shipped, then there will be a $50 cost to cover the printing and mailing.
Registrations must be received by August 14, 2024 to ensure timely shipment of the manual.
OPTION 2: IN PERSON (FREE)
6 sessions are held in-person beginning Wednesdays, Aug 28 – Oct 2, 2024; 6:30-8:30 Central Time at Christ Church Anglican in Plano TX (4550 Legacy Dr, Plano, TX 75024)
Precious Losses – Infant Death ($30)
This class is designed to help parents who want to gain a deeper understanding of the very intimate loss of a child.
3 sessions (2 hours each)
A book (A Precious Loss) is also available in English and Spanish.

Understanding Suicide (via ZOOM, $10)
Survivors of suicide experience a unique impact compared to other types of loss. Understanding and managing emotions like sorrow, guilt, and anger can help ease the pain of loss.

Caregivers of a Terminally Ill or a Dementia Patient (via ZOOM, $30)
Caregivers for dementia or terminally ill loved ones walk the daily path lined with tiny signs of diminished function of their loved one’s mental and physical health. The course offers helpful coping skills with a Christian perspective on grief.

Pastoral Care – Clergy or Ministry Training ($40)
This class aims to equip clergy or ministry leaders with the knowledge and skills to provide comfort to grieving individuals in the community. The presentation will include helpful tips, coping skills, and God's Model of grieving within a compassionate framework for the griever.

Pastoral Care in Canada – Addressing MAID (Free)
Clergy and Pastoral Care Ministers experience the aftermath of MAID (Medical Assistance in Death) both personally and in their congregations. Loss through this type of suicide has traumatic ramification within the families of those who died. Join with other ministers to learn about the signs of possible suicide, support for the grievers and messages to avert the consideration of this epidemic of death across Canada.

Birth Parents and Adoption
On-site training is available and delivered by experienced Brave Penny staff. This training is for Churches and Adoption Agencies who support birthmothers.

Cancer Patients (ZOOM, $30)
Cancer patients not only suffer from treatment but the “unknown future" which surrounds them every day. Join with others on the battle ground of cancer or with survivors to learn about Christian perspectives on grief and suffering. Included are coping skills to ease the stress of the journey.

First Responders experience danger and trauma as a daily part of their job. This program addresses Christian perspectives of grief, coping skills and tips on how to respond to those who are served.

Military (Active and Retired) (via ZOOM, $30)
Military personnel experience unique types of loss and grief. Separation from family and trauma of combat are stress factors and sources of grief. Unique to these losses is the code of silence which is honored and will be honored during the session. This is an opportunity to learn about grief’s affects, Christian perspective on suffering and coping skills to live in contentment.
